Canvas Labyrinth Order Form
STANDARD FEATURES All of our canvas labyrinths are made with 100% number 12 natural untreated cotton duck. ("Duck" is an especially durable, heavy weave.) The natural color is a light beige. Seams are double-stitched flat overlap. Hems are double-rolled. The Chartres pattern labyrinths in excess of 30 feet in diameter are divided into three sections which are connected with Velcro. The Chartres labyrinths also have three carrying bags. All other patterns are made as a single piece, weighing from 10 to 45 pounds. Seams are aligned horizontal to the entrance direction. Labyrinths are shipped in plastic containers.Most especially, our labyrinths are made and/or directly supervised by Judy Hopen, the world's leading labyrinth maker. Her skill is unsurpassed. We believe she has personally made more labyrinths than anyone in history. (Another labyrinth source claims high numbers, but they are manufactered, not hand-made. The choice is between an original or a print.) CUSTOM FEATURES All labyrinths are hand drawn and painted original works of art. We use indoor latex flat house paint. As each labyrinth is made to order, you may choose your color by sending us the name from any well-known paint company (The Home depot for example). Or, you may ask for generic colors, such as "purple" or "forest green." If you have a specific color to match, send us a sample. Unpainted labyrinths (drawn only) are shipped with painting instructions and drawn scraps of canvas for practicing. As our canvas comes in 72-inch (six-foot) widths, our standard sizes are multiples of six. However, we will make it whatever size you specify within the range shown above, for no extra cost. We can write prayers within the lines (subsequently painted over), add grommets, or otherwise customize the labyrinth for your intended purpose. You may also specify a different perimeter shape, vertical seams, or number of sections. There are two popular versions of the Chartres labyrinth pattern. One is identical to the labyrinth in the floor of Chartres Cathedral in France. The other was developed by Grace Cathedral in San Francisco, to add features that enhance the walking experience. This version, known as the "Veriditas variation," has a wider space between the back-to-back turns. This makes the turns easier to see in dim light or for the visually challenged. It also gives a place to step off the path to get out of the flow. To balance the wider turns, the space between the petals in the center is colored in. The path just ends in the middle. In most instances, it is best to have a larger center. So our standard pattern makes the center twice the path width. Please indicate if you would like either the small center or a center that is larger yet. Within the same diameter, the larger the center, the smaller the path width. ADD ONS Add ons are non-standard features that cost extra. Most typically they pertain to multiple colors (such as rainbow) or canvas width. Twelve-foot-wide canvas eliminates some seams. However, the seams are very flat and barely noticeable. We find that the wider canvas has more issues with quality, as it is harder to weave.Hence, we advise 6-ft. canvas. We can also add custom decorations and inscriptions. Describe what you would like and we will give you the cost. Expedited shipping and foreign destinations involve additional cost.
